Willingham Guides had an evening of all things Scottish. The Guides brainstormed what things they thought of as being Scottish and came up with lots of ideas: from kilts and haggis to Loch Ness Monsters and men with red hair who shout a lot!
After finding out which of their surnames were Scottish and which were their tartans, the girls then devised their own tartan design. They then made a Loch Ness Monster cake and tried different Scottish foods, including haggis, tattie scones, oat cakes and shortbread. Quite a few of the girls were surprised that they liked the haggis and one decided that she was going to ask mum to buy one.
The girls then had a surprise guest when a local piper wearing his kilt and sporran to entertain them and he even let the girls try playing the bagpipes themselves. There were a lot of red faces, but all of them eventually managed to get a noise out of the pipes.
The evening ended with some Scottish dancing to the amusement of the teachers and Ofsted Inspectors at the school where the Guides meet!
The Guides declared the evening great fun and asked to do it more often.
