3rd Histon Brownies go canoeing!

On a sunny evening last week, 3rd Histon Brownies gathered for their final meeting of the year at Milton Country Park for a Canoe Taster Session. The evening began with a safety briefing and demonstration of how to paddle before the girls chose their partners and boarded their canoes. Once out on the water, they soon got the hang of working together to travel in the right direction. After allowing time for the girls to gain their confidence, the coaches ran some games. According to Corran singing “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Jump” with the appropriate actions was great fun!

When it was time to return to the shore, the girls paddled most of the way and then jumped into the lake and swam back. Some were a little hesitant at first, but afterwards all agreed that it wasn’t too cold and the smiles on their faces proved that! So much so, that they ended by standing on the edge of the jetty and jumping in again! Before drying off and heading home, Lauren said “I’ve had a fantastic time and wish that we could do this every week.”

Our thanks must go to the volunteer coaches from the County Outdoors Team for giving their time so that our Brownies could have such a fun evening.
