Twenty girls and their Leaders from 3rd Histon Brownies spent last weekend on holiday at the Jarman Centre in Newmarket. The girls chose a beach party theme and so their Leaders planned two days of seaside activities for them to enjoy.
The Brownies designed posters for their bedrooms named Bondi, Copacabana, Miami and Waikiki. They also made their own outfits for the party, consisting of custom designed t-shirts and brightly coloured grass skirts.
Luckily the weather matched the theme, so they all cooled off with a water game before changing for the party.
The party started with mocktails. Then the girls had fun playing games and chatting before having a beach barbeque. After dessert of fruit kebabs everyone gathered around the campfire to toast marshmallows.
Guides from the 1st Fordham group who were camping nearby joined in with the campfire. The Guides enjoyed teaching the Brownies some new songs and singing old favourites.
Other activities over the weekend included playing parachute games and with bubbles wands, making edible beach scenes and completing a treasure hunt. After a traditional seaside meal of fish & chips and ice creams, the tired but happy girls headed home.
Frances, a Leader, said “I enjoyed getting to know the Brownies better over the weekend and watching them learn how to take responsibility for themselves and the others in their group”. When asked what their favourite activity was, Hattie and Elise couldn’t decide and simply said “all of it”!
