Wellies and Wristbands

PrintAt the end of last month, Guides and members of The Senior Section from across Cambridgeshire East experienced four days of high-adrenaline activities and entertainment from top pop trio Loveable Rogues at Wellies and Wristbands – a fantastic girl-only festival exclusively for Girlguiding members.

The young members travelled to Foxlease in Hampshire to join more than 2,000 members of Girlguiding for the action-packed extravaganza over the Bank Holiday weekend (23-26 August).

Thrill-seekers had their pick of the adventurous activities on offer at Foxlease – one of Girlguiding’s Training and Activity Centres – including zip wiring, abseiling, canoeing and kayaking, climbing and the crate challenge, which sees fearless participants build a huge tower of crates while harnessed to a rope. In the evenings they were entertained by the Loveable Rogues on the main stage, as well as a host of local bands.

The Guides and members of The Senior Section also had the chance to relax and learn new skills – with African drumming, science workshops, an on-site cinema, hot tubs and zorbing on the 65-acre site.

Sarah, one of the Leaders accompanying the girls, said “Wellies and Wristbands was a great experience for the girls – there was a real festival-style atmosphere and it was extra special because the event was girl-only. It’s the second time my girls have attended.”
