The Anglia Girl Scouts invited Soham Brownies and Guides to their Thanksgiving celebrations at RAF Mildenhall last month.
49 Girls Scouts and their families served their guests a traditional Thanksgiving meal of roast turkey, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce. There was also the chance to try macaroni and cheese, corn, green bean casserole and corn bread. The girls finished the feast with deserts like apple pie, pumpkin pie and banana bread.
Phoenix Stanford from Junior troop #001 said, “It was fun spending time with my old friends and with my new friends. It was good to see the Soham Brownies again”.
After the meal, the American girls ran activities for their guests to help them complete their International Friendship Recognition badge, which is only available to USA Girl Scouts living overseas.
The British girls learnt about the traditions of the Thanksgiving Day holiday and found out about life in the USA.
They also talked about traditions from British holidays, school life and how they spend their free time.
Brownie Leader Val said, “It was very funny when our Brownies found out that the Girl Scouts didn’t have to wear school uniform! We were made very welcome, thank you for hosting such a fantastic celebration.”
