It really was third time lucky for 2nd Haddenham Brownies when they applied for Girlguiding tickets to the Youth Enclosure for Trooping the Colour this year. After unsuccessful applications in 2013 and 2014, 14 girls from the group and their Leaders were able to watch the Colonel’s Review of the Show with an unhindered view from the tree shaded enclosure between The Mall and Horse Guards Parade.
The Prince of Wales led the Welsh Guards as more than 1,100 soldiers, 350 musicians and almost 250 military horses filed past the Union Flag waving Brownies for the display at Horse Guards Parade in central London.
They shared the enclosure with hundreds of other Brownies, Guides and members of the Scout Association. Unit Leader, Amanda Buttress was impressed with the safe, relaxing environment from which they could enjoy the extravaganza.
The Unit was also lucky enough to be able to secure overnight accommodation at Pax Lodge, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts World Centre in London, for the night before the event so that they arrived refreshed and ready for the day. After the show the Brownies enjoyed a cruise along the River Thames before the return journey home. For two of the girls who attended it was their first night away with the Brownies and for one her first time on a train and the underground.
