Members of Girlguiding in Manea are celebrating this week thanks to the generosity of March Charity shop, Open Chest. The girls were presented with a cheque for £1237 from the charity to cover their hall rent for the next year.

The groups, which include Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and The Senior Section, are for girls aged 5-25 years and currently have over 60 members. They started back in 2009 with Brownies and over the last 5 years has grown to include all four sections of guiding. The groups in the village are very active and offer activities which so far this year have included a weekend for Guides and The Senior Section at PGL Caythorpe, a sleepover in the village hall for Brownies and the Rainbows are preparing for a day out at Colchester Zoo with 2000 Rainbows from around the region

The girls have also been busy making a campfire circle at Manea Pits to enable them to hold outdoor evenings during the summer months. Guide leader, Alex Robinson, said “This generous donation means that we will now have more money to concentrate on activities for the girls at our weekly meetings.”
