Brownies from the 4th March unit had lots to celebrate at their meeting on Thursday evening. Not only are the brownies nationally 100 years old this year their own unit is 60! To celebrate they dressed in uniforms from the last 60 years to complete the Traditions of Guiding badge, sang Brownie songs from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s and enjoyed a special celebration cake made for the unit by Rainbow Leader Tracy Band. Other activities completed for the badge over recent weeks have included learning to plait, setting the table and keeping fit. The meeting was brought back up to date and closed with six new members making the new Brownie promise launched in September 2013 and presentations of Traditions of Guiding badges to all members of the unit.
Assistant Brownie Leader Susan Southwell commented “Although the girls loved the chance to dress up they told me that they want to go back to their modern comfortable uniforms. The biggest challenge to them was tying the tie!”
Girlguiding offers girls and young women their own space to have fun, build friendships, gain valuable life skills and be themselves.
