Frequently Asked Questions

Q:     Our unit is not coming because it is too long a day for Rainbows

A:     Rainbows stay on site for their Guideopoly challenge. If Rainbow units want to participate in the picnic, their own afternoon on-site Guideopoly challenge and the BBQ, we will arrange for a shuttle bus to take them to the off site pick-up point/parking area at 6pm. Rainbow units can of course stay for the whole event if they wish. We will need to know in advance the number of Rainbow units opting for this arrangement. The fee remains  £15 per person whichever option is chosen.

Q:    Can cars park on site?

A:     Because of the volume of cars/buses expected on the day and the limited parking on site, we are arranging for off-site parking and drop off point with a shuttle bus to bring participants on site. We are not able to arrange for parents to collect girls from the site. Disabled parking facilities will be available on site, please indicate on your booking form and a parking pass will be issued to you.

Q:    Trefoil Guild members have asked if they can come later in the day and park on site

A:    Yes it will be possible for Trefoil Guild  members to come later in the day, one possible suggestion is that they arrive for the BBQ and evening entertainment.  Parking on site is very limited and permits will be issued for disabled parking.  The shuttle bus from the off site parking area can be timed to accommodate this arrangement.

Q:    My daughter’s Rainbow unit is not intending to come to the event, can my daughter join another Rainbow group who are coming?

A:     Provided the other Rainbow leader is happy to include your daughter within her group and the  adult:children ratio is adhered to, we have no objection to this arrangement.

Q:   Can leaders bring their own children who are not members?

A:     Leaders may bring their young children as long as they maintain adult:children ratios for their group’s section and they pay the full participant fee (£15); they will be covered by Girlguding UK public liability insurance for the duration of the event.  No crèche facilities have been arranged for this event, so young children will have to remain with their parent.

Q:    My Senior Section girls want to be together for the Guideopoly challenge

A:      We will try as far as possible to allocate girls from the same unit to a team, but where individuals or total numbers from a unit don’t divide by 4 we will group the remaining number together. If you wish to suggest the grouping of teams of 4 from your unit we will try and accommodate this.

Q:    Churchill College site is a long walk from the City centre, the girls might find it exhausting to walk there and back and still enjoy the rest of the event

A:     As part of the event cost, we are arranging for a shuttle bus to transfer Brownies, Guides, Senior Section and any accompanying leaders to a drop off point on Queens’ Road (The Backs) and then return them to the Churchill site after the challenge.

Q:    Do my girls need to bring any money with them

A:     There will be an opportunity to visit a tuck shop, drinks stand and Centenary souvenir stall.

Q:    The cost of the event is high

A:     Because of the location being a green field site, all amenities are having to be hired for the day, this includes shuttle bus transport. We have been fortunate that Churchill College/Møller Centre has let us have the venue free of charge which has saved us around £4,000 and has helped to keep the cost down to £15.

Q:    What will we be doing during the day?

A:     The Guideopoly challenges will be tailored to specific age ranges but all young members will have their own challenge to participate in. There will then be numerous additional activities on site during the time allocated for the BBQ. The girls will be able to try these out for themselves.

We look forward to seeing you on 5th September 2009.
